12 toxic habits I’ve quit to be happier, smarter, & successful
We are so habitual of these habits and barely understand what wrong they are doing to our inner peace.
Well, I won’t hold you on wait for long and will take you into a ride of self-awareness. It will uplift your mood and will take you on the path of a mindful life. Fingers crossed!
1. Comparing you to others:
Yes, we are all guilty of saying such things; ‘That person has more fortunes than me’ or ‘she looks better than me’.
You’re belittling YOU.
Focus on what you have, and believe that you can get what you have faith in.
“Life is not a race, it’s a journey. Enjoy the moment” – Dieter F. Uchtdorf
2. Seeking other people approval:
Honestly, it is the biggest toxic way of self-approval. You’re enough for your self.
Of course, it sounds good when appreciated but it shouldn’t be done at the expense of your happiness.
It is a universal truth that you can’t please everyone.
Find your happiness within you and you’ll be amazed at how no one else’s approval matter now.
3. Living the past:
“Life is available only in the present moment” – Thich Nhat Hanh
What good will you get from the present moment if you stay in the past?
The past mistakes were only meant to learn from not to repeat and remember them.
4. Blaming others:
I may sound harsh but the blame game will not get you peace of mind.
If you are in a bad situation or phase simply own it. It will bring calm to your perturbed thoughts.
Focus on what you desire and start working to achieve it.
5. Wealth over health:
You’re a workaholic and ambitious, that’s great! But what will you do with a lot of money and bad health?
I hope you never get in such a situation that’s why it’s highly recommended that you spend at least 45 minutes of physical activity daily, eat healthy home-made food, take fruit and vegetables and drink a lot of water.
6. You’re being too hard on you:
When things are getting out of control, simply let them go.
If you try to control everything, you’d be exhausted.
You have to trick yourself with a thought ‘nothing is happening that needs to be controlled’.
“The only thing you can control is how you react to things out of your control” – Bassam Tarazi
7. You hurt your inner child:
This simply means that you criticize you for everything. You say a single negative sentence about you and your life then this multiply in several thoughts.
A child is hurt when we say something bad to him similarly your inner child is hurt on every scold and sarcastic remark.
Forgive and love yourself!
8. Chronic sleeplessness:
Not getting enough sleep, not just for one day, a week or month but this is your habit. Then, let me tell you this is your toxic habit.
It makes you sleep even when your eyes are wide open because your mind is numbed.
Set a healthy window of sleep of 7-8 hours daily and that too should be with early sleep.
9. Stay in your comfort zone:
“Life begins at the end of your comfort zone” – Neale Donald Walsch
It’s good that you’re at comfort with your work, relationship or gym routine but waits, sometimes it is not letting you grow and you keep circulating with the same kind of thoughts and phenomena.
Run an extra mile, talk to a new person, and accept a new job offer. In any case, just challenge yourself!
10. Watching too much time on technology:
A long time in front of T.V or mobile phone does harm beyond your imagination.
It deprives you of sleep and quality time with yourself, with your loved ones or to achieve your goal.
Limit your time to 1-hour maximum in a whole day for both devices collectively.
“Procrastination makes easy things hard, hard things harder” – Mason Cooley
This one habit leaves you with a directionless and aimless life.
When you keep putting your works on the next day, it keeps on building and reduces your productivity.
Set a deadline for the hardest task that you don’t want to do and get it done right away.
Believe me, you’ll feel unburdened!
12. Spending time on social media:
You post something about you and then wait for people to respond to it or you watch the life of your friends, influencers, celebrities and start comparing.
Believe me, you never know the fact behind oh so perfect life.
Meet with real people, spend some time and get to know their story and struggle that would inspire you.
These habits may seem little but have a huge bad impact on you; it’s time to mend them!
